Okay, I looked into it and we're up against a brick wall.

The problem is that we have so many albums that the database is choking everytime someone tries to query against it. The options are as such:

1. Remove some of the albums (easy choice, but which albums to remove?)
2. Shard the database (hard choice because in the interm we'll simply have to shut down)
3. Remove the tag selection thing. (impossible choice because it'll mean lu.scio.us will operate except without search or a tag filter, basically making it a meandering top list)
4. Limit queries to the first X albums (someone suggested this to me, but its an *impossible* choice because in practice it'll make the entire site seem inconsistent and broken)
5. Limit the # of people who come into the gallery. (things will still be broken, but less people will see it. Also since the combined load will be less, then refreshing your page will bring up results rather than help crash the servers).
6. Ignore it. (The site will continue to be unstable, and we can disable the features that break the most like dupe checking on uploads)

Suggestions are helpful, but at the going rate we're definitely going to have to close.

To anyone who wants to come out and say: "this is shit... oh my gawd you can't code a bit...etc. and so forth" keep in mind that isn't helpful and barring all suggestions, we're definitely going to close.

If we do shut down for good, I'll definitely open source the code. However when I say "we have to close", I mean a reboot. We'll have to close for about a month, like we did in April of last year. Then we'll re-open with a freshly coded site.

There's a whole lot of talk about a paysite going on. This isn't a money grab. We actually have problems that can't be solved with just additional funding.
If it were as simple as throwing money at the problem to buy more hardware, I'd have done that already.

The reason to make transition to a "gold pass" model would simply be to determine who gets priority when the site is overloaded. Ofcourse, long time contributers would get this "gold pass" as will admins, moderators, helpers of any sort, etc.

If you're an uploading, contributing member then nothing will change.
If you're a annonymous user, then nothing will change.

Everything will still be free, except members will have the CHOICE to pay for a pass to enable downloads for a month. With that pass, they won't have to upload for credits in order to download.

Technically I could call it a donation, but I always hated the idea of 'donationware'. If you give us money, we're obliged to provide a service for you. If we simply call it a donation, then we're not obligated to even respond to your support requests.

My idea has everything in common with a donation except the name.

When I say I want to delete some albums... I'm thinking that I want to wipe out everything in the Variety Pack. That is... random mix hentai.

Im thinking deleting albums, everyone available, such as me, you,ydk,vet,kouchou, etc can notify members to uplaod into 1 ultra mega album, 1 naruto album, 1 bleach album etc, or simply deleting everything that has that variety pack tag works too.

Unfortunately, I'd don't mind if you ignore it for a while, but you probably won't. I'm just trying to get as many of the series as I can, but if you close down I can't do that. What I can suggest is do away with the galleries and hook up the series to a dedicated download system like, megaupload, or maybe do the thing on Bittorrent instead. then you can still offer the same thing, but people exclusively download and can look at the stuff leisurely, the only thing, is if you charge, I'd have to object. Well, I've given my advice, so get the stuff back up. I've still got like 20 or 30 series I want to get. Thank you for making this great site.

step 1: assertain which kinds of hentai pictures are frequently duplicated and uploaded and ban them till the site is fixed/upgraded.(naruto and furry and world of warcraft come to mind)

step 2: remove every album that has under 4 tags.
step3: remove every 'variety pack' album, no exceptions.
step 4: SEVERELY limit free downloads for anonymous users, and start letting members see more advertisements (this is a bet hedging thing, maybe just use the interstertial ads for members?)
step 5: introduce a pay option if people still want to access the content, then they can pay a fee for it. this fee will also support new hardware and software for the relaunch.
step 6: if there is an english and a japanese version of a manga in the gallery, axe the japanese version. having two of any album should have been unacceptable from the start anyways IMHO.

things like making search unavailable for nonmenbers is great too. as far as the fee goes, it should either be a low, monthly recurring payment OR a larger one time fee.

anyways, no one listens to me to begin with., but i believe this is a good start.

PS: as a staff member i support limiting uploads as well, by IP, and the only option that i completely disagree with is disabling the dupe checker. without that this site would be a mess.

PPS: as the number one gallery admin and one of the oldest members i will support the head admin in any decision that is made. more or less it's been a great two and a half years, and i'm proud to be a staff member here.

PPSS: HEY FAGGOTS LU.SCIO.US IS BETA SOFTWARE AND BUGS, GLITCHES AND BREAKDOWNS WILL OCCUR, don't complain or start cursing, i have no problems banning anyone who gets lippy.
